Experimental Leveling Update

One of my goals with the current update-in-development is to simplify the game for new players. This mini-patch aims to answer the question, “Do characters need to gain range and attack speed as they level?”

As I thought about it, I realized I didn’t have a good reason to increase range and attack speed with level. Other than adding a slight visual display of your increased strength, it seems to have a few downsides:

  • Having a low attack speed early game makes it harder to play solo
  • Having your range change throughout the game makes it hard to predict the optimal tower

tl;dr: All specs will now function similar to the Assassin: No longer gaining attack speed or range as they level, but instead gaining damage at a faster rate.

The base attack speed and range of each spec is now at approximately the values of a level 18. Base damage has been scaled down accordingly. Overall DPS should stay about the same. The classes page has not been updated, as I may roll back this change. Once I feel confident with the change, I’ll update the page.

This change has not been rolled out to the PotionMaster or Shockmage, as they will be leaving the game soon – at least temporarily.
