The “Leaving and Rejoining” Update: Live Now

I made a handful of changes to make it easier to leave and rejoin the game, without inconveniencing anyone.

  • The streamer running the game on their PC can now leave the game (finally)
  • Leaving is now instant. There is an animation and the player will just leave immediately.
  • When a player leaves the game, enemies which have already spawned will have their max health decreased proportionally. This will be invisible since it only affects their max health. An enemy at 10% health will still be at 10% health.
    • This is so players leaving the game doesn’t increase the difficulty of the current wave for the remaining players.
  • When a player enters the game, enemies which have already spawned will have their max health increased proportionally after a six second delay (to give the player time to get into a building). This will, again, be invisible. It won’t “heal” enemies, it will only affect their max health.
    • This is to prevent weird strategies, like waiting until right after a boss spawns to join the game, so you don’t increase their health.
  • If a player is under-leveled when they leave, enemy health will be increased proportionally for the rest of the game. This effect will decay over time, so it become less impactful each wave after the player leaves.
    • The goal is to remove the incentive for under-leveled players to leave the game.
    • The player’s remaining power and any altar bonuses will also be considered when determining if the player is under-leveled.
  • If a player is over-leveled when they leave, enemy health will be decreased proportionally for the rest of the game. Again, this effect will be less impactful as the game wears on.
    • The goal is to remove the negative impact of over-leveled players leaving the game.
    • The player’s remaining power and any altar bonuses will also be considered when determining if the player is over-leveled.
  • Upon rejoining the game, players who left will gain the average amount of XP, Power, and Altar Bonuses players in the game have earned since they left (similar to the XP a new player would get when joining late)
  • Upon rejoining, any increase or decrease to enemy health as a result of them leaving will be removed.
  • If a player leaves and rejoins too frequently, their units will start entering the game disabled
    • This is to prevent weird strategies where players leave and rejoin multiple times per round
    • Each time one of your units leaves the game, you’ll gain one stack of a debuff, increasing the amount of time for which new units are disabled upon joining.
    • The effect of each stack is as follows:
      • Before leaving: 0 seconds
      • After leaving 1 time: 6 seconds
      • After leaving 2 times: 6 seconds
      • After leaving 3 times: 12 seconds
      • After leaving 4 times: 18 seconds
      • After leaving 5 times: 24 seconds
      • After leaving 6 times: 30 seconds
    • Each round, one stack of the debuff will wear off
